Papillion Municipal Recycling Competition off to Great Start
City Recycling Program Generates Nearly Two Tons of Recyclables; City to Donate Rewards to Papillion Community

There is exciting news about Papillion’s efforts to ’go green’. A pilot program, with Elkhorn Sanitation Service and all municipal departments in the city of Papillion, is off to a great start.
Since June 19, city departments have been engaging in a friendly recycling competition. So far, the city has found that more than 90 percent of trash generated is recyclable. Besides doing the right thing for the environment, city departments are taking advantage of the service provided by ESS, while earning RecycleBank reward points for their recyclables.
To date, the Papillion municipal competition has recycled nearly 4,000 pounds – nearly 2 tons of waste with ESS. These pounds will translate into reward points that the city will redeem for coupons to use at more than 100 businesses local and nationwide. At the end of the year, the city will donate the coupons to those in need within the Papillion community.
ESS launched the RecycleBank program in the Papillion community in May. Since then, ESS reports that participating households have generated phenomenal recycling volumes. With nearly 600 households recycling at rates of 80 to 100 pounds per month, Papillion residents have generated approximately 150,000 pounds of recyclables with ESS in the past two and a half months. With these numbers, Papillion residents are recycling at rates substantially higher than the national average.
